Pentax K100D Super Review - DPexpert

DPexpert reviews the PENTAX K100D SUPER DSLR and writes - “This is a case of a good camera getting better. The vibration reduction and dust removal are worthwhile improvements to the K100D and well worth the little extra money. No compact or super-zoom pseudo SLR comes within cooee of the quality in this package. Some may fear that 6 megapixels are not enough but the fact is that 6 million well processed pixels will produce high quality A3+ prints – do you need more? Highly recommended.”

Sigma SD14 compared to the Fujifilm S5 Pro

Posted by Digi in Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Pentax, SIGMA, Samsung, Sony

DCVIEWS has posted a side-by-side comparison of two professinal grade digital SLRs, the Sigma SD14 and the Fujifilm S5 Pro.

“It’s clear the Fuji S5 Pro and the Sigma SD14 have no more in common than only an eccentric sensor, which isn’t a Bayer CCD or CMOS as with most other digital SLR’s. And with this the comparison ends, because with Fuji’s Super CCD and Sigma X3 Foveon in their heart, the S5 Pro and SD14 perform very differently.

Both cameras show huge improvements compared to their predecessors and produce unique results in some cases. But because of its high price tag the Fuji S5 Pro has competition from two sides: the more expensive, but real 12.7 Mp full frame Canon Eos 5D with unmatched resolution and high ISO performance and the Nikon D200 and Canon 40D, much cheaper and really speedy, all-round workhorses. The SD14 is still a niche product and has to compete against cheaper equivalents like the Canon 400D, the Nikon D40x, the Pentax K10D, the Olympus E410, the Samsung GX10 and the Sony A100.”

Casio Exilim EX-Z75 Review

Posted by Digi in Canon, Casio, General Electric, Lenses, Pentax, Pentax

Trusted Reviews has a review of the Casio Exilim EX-Z75 posted on their site. The Exilim series has proven to be an excellent blend of both value and performance. A fantastic camera at a low price if you will. But camera after camera, Casio didn’t really do much to change the design of each model. They said-

“It also has extremely good image quality. Casio used to use Pentax or Canon lenses in its compacts, and the lens on the Z75 does look very similar to the lens on the Pentax Optio M30. The level of detail is very good, and overall sharpness is also good although it does drop off in the far corners of the frame at wide angle. There is also noticeable barrel distortion at wide angle, although to be fair it’s about average for a pocket compact. … Another outstanding pocket compact from Casio, the Exilim EX-Z75 is an ideal camera for general and social snapshot photography. It is well made, sensibly but attractively designed, very easy to use and has much better performance than its low cost would suggest. Picture quality is very good as well. It may lack a few features such as image stabilisation and an AF assist lamp, but on the whole it is excellent value for money.”

Review of the Olympus EVOLT E-410

Posted by Digi in Lenses, Olympus, Pentax, Pentax

The Live View LCD is an uncommonly cool feature for a digital SLR. Other companies have only provided this feature on exclusive pro models. Thanks to a powerful 10-megapixel Live-MOS sensor, you’ll see more detail in your pictures than ever before. And you’ll have the flexibility to crop and still produce large, detailed prints. DCResource has a review of the Olympus EVOLT-E410 and writes,

“In some ways, the Olympus EVOLT E-410 reminds me of the Pentax K10D. Both cameras are capable of taking great photos, but you’ll need to adjust some settings first. It would’ve been nice had Olympus not applied so much noise reduction at the default settings, but at least there’s a way around that. Once you’ve done that — and maybe adjusted the color saturation — you’ll find the E-410 to a be a good entry-level digital SLR with a handy (but imperfect) live view feature, dust reduction, and snappy performance. I personally would spend the extra $100 for the EVOLT E-510, which is larger and easier to hold, and it has built-in image stabilization as well. Whichever one you choose, both of these new EVOLTs are worth a look.”
